22 KHornet CZ 527 (Originally 22 Hornet)

Like the 223 AI is a 223 Rem on steroids.  The 22 KHornet is a standard 22 Hornet the same way.

The standard 22 Hornet was one of the first “varmint and small game round”.

Over the years the 22 Hornet had several problems with case separation.  The case head spaced on the RIM, not the SHOULDER.  Different ammo and rifle manufactures had different rim thickness causing case separations.  This wildcat took care of that. Taking most of the taper out of the case and forming a 40 degree shoulder to head space on.

22 Hornet experiments started in the 1920s.  Using the black-powder 22 WCF at Springfield Armory by Townsend Whelen and G. L. Wotkyns.  The first commercial  Hornet wasn’t produced until the early 1930’s by Winchester.

During WW II the military (USAF) used the M4 Survival Rifle. They also used the break-open rifle/shotgun over /under design called  the M6 Aircrew Survival Weapon.

With the problems of the original 22 Hornet someone was bound to design a wildcat of it.  Lysle Kilbourn did that in the 1940 time frame with the 22 KHornet.

I like shooting my KHornet in the spring when the pups first come out.  It does a great job out to and according to the shooter around 175 yards.  Although the wind does get to the small bullet when it’s much over 15 mph.  With a mil-dot scope, if the wind is a constant speed I’ve held my own out to over 200 yards.  My CZ came with the single set trigger.   Not set it’s around 4 lbs, set it’s oz’s, which takes some getting use to.
