222 Rem
My second 222 Rem is on a Rem 700 Action. The triple deuce, in its day won all of the Bench Rest matches since being introduced in 1950 by Remington in the Model 722 action. The 222 Rem case isn’t based on any other cartridge, it is its own thing. The 223 Remington didn’t come down the pike until after 1957 commercially.
The 222 Rem took over the bench rest world from the beginning. Setting many records that still stand to this day. 222 Rem ammo can still be found on every stores shelves.
I have a Browning A-Bolt in 222 Rem with a camo stock. Of which I don’t really like because of the stock. The stock doesn’t have a long enough trigger pull, my arms are long. And the stock doesn’t set a bag well because of the skinny for-end. But it shoots well, and I’ve shot a lot of prairie dogs with it.
So I’ve finally decided what to do with my 222 Rem BDL. It’s a mint condition rifle that I just can not do nothing with, I’m not a collector. I use my rifles. When I picked it up it was hardly used, the lugs had no ware marks on them at all.
So here’s what I’m going to do. I had a target Rem Laminated stock I took off of a target model 22-250. Turned that action into a 22 BR with a Pac-nor fluted barrel using a Hogue stock. I’ll replace the like new BDL stock with it. I’ll get it bedded in so the barrel will float. I know someone will want the like new BDL stock. I’m going to have a muzzle brake installed on the barrel to lessen recoil.
I know some collectors will have a fit, but it has to be a shooter. Not a safe queen.
