Olympic Arms – 5.56 NATO
This Olympic Arms – 5.56 NATO AR is a true 5.56 NATO rifle in name only. Does it look like the M16s I used in Vietnam; not hardly. With a 20 inch heavy barrel, a Luth fully adjustable stock, a V-TAB (Vertical – Tactical Adjustable Buttstock, a palm swell grip, match trigger, flat top design (with no sights), and a large scope, it is what it is; a Target/Match rifle.
With this AR being a 5.56 NATO, not 223 Rem. I can still shot the ammo loaded for my two 223 Rem. The difference between the two (223 Rem and 5.56 NATO) is the length of “leade, throat, or freebore”. Whatever you want to call it, they all meaning the same thing. It’s a portion of the barrel with the rifling reamed away for bullet jump. It is the distance between the mouth of the cartridge and the point at which the rifling engages the bullet. The longer the leade, the higher the pressure round you can use. The 5.56 NATO round runs at a higher pressure to facilitate automatic fire and the heaver bullets.
Therefor don’t shoot 5.56 NATO in a 223 Rem chamber.
