With me, myself, and I, in Springfield, CO, for a 3 day jaunt;  I use the word jaunt sparingly.  Didn’t get to my first field until around noon.   Not many prairie dogs to be seen, not good.

Wanted to start with my 20 VarTarg because I had about 300 rounds to fire form that I made out of 223 Rem.  I ended up shooting about 65 the rest of the day, not my best day for sure.  I missed a lot for me, many shots were 200 yards plus. Usually the 20 VT can handle that easy enough, but fire forming is another thing.  Most of the rounds I fired still need in-side neck reamed to be like I like them, so a new bullet will just slide in a fired case. That did put me over 5,000 varmints for the year (5,004).

The next two days weren’t much better, but I used a different rifle.  Right before I left I decided to take my 22 BR, good choice.  I haven’t shot my 22 BR for over a year, glade I took it.  I have a 10 x 40 x 50 30 mm tubed scope with Mil Dot radicals in it.  Two hundred yard plus shots were no problem.  I used two different loads, one a 40 VMax at 3,700 fps and a 50 VMax at 3,500 fps.  Both loads are zeroed at one inch high at 100 yds so the hold over out to 300 + was very little.  When that scope is cranked up to 40 the prairie dogs looks like they’re at the end of the barrel, hold over and wind is easy to make. You do have to be on a very good rest, but then there isn’t a problem.

The second day Springfield had something I haven’t seen often, FOG, HEAVY FOG!!   Didn’t get any shooting until after 1:00, Wed was a shot day so I only shot another 137 for those days. OH !! WELL!!  Total prairie dogs 202.

Didn’t take any time to take pics, next time.

Total varmints for the year 5,141.
