Got back last night from a short trip to Springfield, CO to shoot (hunt) prairie dogs.

Friday South of Eads, CO my “check engine” light came on.  I stopped the truck and looked under the hood, nothing looked out of the ordinary.   Got back in the truck and the fan on the heater stopped working.  Made it into Lamar, CO and stopped at an O’Reillys.  Ask if they knew of a place to get my truck check out.  Sure; we can.  OK ! Let’s do it.  My fuel excess gas something or other stopped working because of low power???  OH ! That means the battery is toast; sure enough it was.  I bought a new one and they put it in for free and because I was a Vet they gave me a really good discount.  O’Reillys has my vote from now on.

By the time I got to Springfield I only got to shoot about an hour and only managed to shoot 29 dogs.

Saturday wasn’t to bad of a day, still only 104 dogs for the day.

Sunday was much worse.  The days weather started off nice, but that didn’t last.  Wind got up to around 25 mph and clouds rolled in, dogs went down, headed home.  45 dogs for the day. Total 178.

Did get some pics of my set-ups.

Total for the year, 5,728 varmints.

  • Total prairie dogs for this trip 178
  • Rifles I used: 222 Rem, 223 AI, 6 x 45, and 221 FireBall
  • Total varmints for the year, 5,728
