2015 Trip #1

The first trip of the year on Feb 6.  I shoot all year round according to the weather.  This trip I’ll used my 20 Practical and one of my 223 AIs.  I call this rifle “big Boy”.  It’s a Remington 722 action with a 26 ” Blazer barrel 1 1/2 contour, with a big muzzle brake.  It’s was my first real varmint rifle that I kept.  I had a few different rifles I used for varmints, but they weren’t varmint rifles.  Most of them went by the way sometime or other during my military career.  When money got tight, my rifles and/or shotguns went.

Burlington, CO is only about 3 hours from my house; but the shooting isn’t real great.  We have had a slow recovery from the drought that hit us for about three years in a row.  First day was a little cold, not bad.  The second the wind did get up some, the sun was out nice, and I did manage to shoot 135 prairie dogs total; with a couple doubles.

  • Starting count of varmints: 135
  • Rifles used this trip: 20 Practical and one of my 223 AIs (Big Boy)
  • Total to start the year: 135
