Returned last night from #8 shooting trip to Wheatland, WY.

We didn’t get to the field until late in the morning on Tuesday.  Then it got HOT and very windy.  So we left around 3:30 dodging in out of some rain storms; the temperature was 103 that day.

Wednesday was or at least started off to be a good day but didn’t last, wind again and storms.

I went back that evening to scout for a different ranch to shoot on, no luck, everyone was gone. So I shot for 45 minutes or so after the wind set down some before it got dark.

Thursday was much the same as Wednesday, study shooting until the wind came up and storms were moving around us. Took off around 4:30 to get back to Denver.

I shot my 223 AI some, it’s the one I call “Big Boy”, because it weights 15 pounds, not one to carry around the field much.

Stop using my 223 AI a few times because it still has an old BSA that gets real hard to see through when the light goes down as storms come and go; decreasing light.

My Rem 700 in 222 Rem took up the slack quite well with its 6 – 24 x 50 Tactical  Mil-dot scope in a 30mm tube with illuminated reticle. The light got so dim a few times I used the illuminated reticle to separate my target from it background.

I did manage to shot 366 dogs, not my best, but had a good time with my friend form Denver and his brother from New Jersey.

I’ll be doing another short trip to Wyoming (3 days) the first of July with a couple friends here in Denver.

My friend Bruce had a camper that we stayed in and it worked out great, good all round trip.

  • Total dogs for this trip: 366
  • Rifles I used: 223 AI & 222 Rem, both in 700 Rem
  • TOTAL VARMINTS for the year : 2,154
