2017 Trip #4

May 23 rd – May 25th with the three of us, Me, Myself, and I.  This trip turned out to be a little different.  Some good, some bad, and some ugly.

My first stop was in Lusk, WY at a gunsmith.  I had got all the parts together to finish having my new barrel and action I had purchased at the Shot Show built into a right handed 6mm BR, I thought.  The good part, the gunsmith said “I can get this put together in a couple days”.  The bad part, my stock of choice might not work.  The barrel is a #8 contour.  As a result he wasn’t sure he could open the Hogue stock enough.  He would check it out.  So he would have to order a Boyde stock to handle the barrel, the ugly part.

Newcastle is about 5 1/2 hours from my house with 1 1/2 hours of that time being from Lusk.  A friend and I had shot some in the cold weather and I wanted to check out the town in good weather.

The first day was driving around checking out two LARGE towns with lots of pups running around.  The wind was around 30 mph so I didn’t get many shots.  Consequently I ran out of daylight.

Because of the few I had shot the first day, the second went better.  I ended up shooting 164.

The third day I was to meet another rancher for breakfast.  We was going to talk about shooting on his place.   As a result after being over an hour and a half late he call and said he had cattle problems.  Rest of that day was wasted.  Because I didn’t want to drive 60 miles for an hour of shooting.  I had 5 1/2 hours of driving plus I had to check on my rifle.

After checking with the gunsmith  my stock wouldn’t work.  Consequently l had to order a Boyd, OH Well.  Probably pick it up on the way through the first of next month.  I’ll be taking 5 guys on a trip to Montana to do some shooting then.

I shot 220 rounds with my 20 Practical, had some doubles and one or two triples.

  • Total varmints for this trip: 164
  • Rifles used on this trip: 20 Practical
  • TOTAL VARMINTS for the year : 2,691
