2019 trip #2, May 1st – 5th, “Rat Shoot 2019” Bob and I in Nevada
We waited until Wednesday May 1 because of weather. Wasn’t much snow that fell in Denver, but we had to cross the mountains somewhere. Not a good idea in a spring snow storm.
The plan was to get to Battle Mountain, Nevada that night. That would have given us three days of shooting, NOT!!! Because the water pump went out of my truck around 3:00 in the afternoon near Park City, Utah. We didn’t get the truck on the road again until noon the next day, losing the whole day in repair and travel.
Friday and Saturday we managed to shoot a little over 1,300 ground squirrels before we took off back to Denver at around 4:00 in the afternoon. We shot 22 Long Rifle and 17 HMR the whole time. I used a 22 Ruger 10/22 Long Rifle and my Marlin Model 917v in 17 HMR, both suppressed. It was the first time I shot suppressed with Rim Fire.
Off the 1,300 we shot, I shot 923 of them for about 16 hours of shooting. Using the suppressed rifles made quite a bit of difference. When I shot the squirrels didn’t pay much attention. My friend on the other side of the truck shooting got their attention. I’m looking forward to shooting suppressed with Center Fire next week.
We drove a hundred and fifty miles or so East and got up the next day to get back into Denver. We hit rain in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado to get back to Denver around 9:00 at night. A long trip fighting Mother Nature most of the way, we lost.
I was also under the weather the whole time and up to Monday the 13 th. I couldn’t bring myself to do much writing until yesterday.
