Tim, his Son, and Myself, Tony, Son-in-Law and a Friend from Washington state all together on one ranch. We did good.
A short trip, but a good one. The weather has finally turned warm and isn’t cloudy all day. Best of all “PUPS ARE OUT IN FORCE”, eating as much grass as they can find before the sun kills it all. We spread out over 2,000 areas and kept steadily shooting both days. The first day we got a late start and a thunder storm ran us out of the field about 4:00 PM. We started to go back after the rain passed but decided to pass. We let the roads dry overnight and they weren’t bad at all the next day. The rancher moved several cattle into the biggest area we wanted to shoot, so we had to keep moving around them, still did good. The second day some of the cattle kept to one place in the shade, it got HOT. Still had to side step some places where the cattle were wondering around, but did fine.
The friends I was with set-up their camper and it worked out well. The summer time is when different groups get most of their work done, power plant, railroad, gas line, and to some extent road people. The winter are just to hard on them, cold, rain, snow, blizzards, and what ever Mother Nature can think up. Several times finding a Motel has been a problem in the summer..
The friends from Ohio had been in the area for a couple days and were staying for a couple days after we left so we meet up and did some shooting together, always nice to meet-up with friends.
A quick estimate for all of us was somewhere around 1,400, probably more. I shot 403, so not a bad two days.
I shot my 221 FireBall with a 6 – 24 x 50 Mil-dot scope mostly, I did shot around 30 22 KHornets.
I’m truly impressed with the 221 FireBall , I managed to get 9 triples and 16 doubles, that i could easily see. I don’t go walking around the field to check out every shot, takes away from trigger time. I shot 486 shots with 403 confirmed kills, not to bad for 72 year old eyes.
Above is one of my doubles at about 160 yards.
One of my triples I shot at only about 100 yards. I was supersized how good the 221 FireBall did on this group.
My 221 FireBall has a scope older than the rifles it’s self. I purchased this 6 – 24 x 50 Mil-Dot scope in 2002 and it has been on two different rifles shooting a few thousand rounds using it. This rifle and my KHornet are rifles you can shoot all day and they don’t beat you up
