2016 Trip #9

Headed out on the 6th and back on the 8th with two friends from Denver, Harold & Tom.  Short because Wednesday the weather was HOT and  real WINDY, we cut the day short.  Thursday it really got HOT and the wind nearly blew us off of our benches.  Then Friday I only shot an hour and a half because I had  to leave early to pick a friend of my wife’s up at the airport.

I used my 20 Practical and 222 Rem 700 both equipped with Tactical 6 – 24 x 50 Mil-Dot scopes.  Wasn’t much you could do with the heat inversion and high winds except dope it out and go.

I tried to set-up into the wind for most of my shooting.  Still most shots were cross-wind in some way.  Had to depend on my scopes Mil-Dot reticle all the time.

I would get the mirage doped out in one direction and move a little and have to start all over again with the doping.  Mil-Dot reticles make it much easier to do and keep track of.

I really can’t complain, I shot 314 dogs,

  • Total dogs for this trip: 314
  • Rifles I used: 20 Practical & 222 Rem, both in Rem 700
  • TOTAL VARMINTS for the year : 2,469
