Trip #4, Eastern Colorado, July 9 & 10 with Ash and myself

Went on another two day trip this time.  Weather was supposed to get kind ‘a iffy.

We had never been to Wray, CO so we headed out that way.  That first day was spent trying to find a place to shoot.  We found one place that didn’t have a lot of prairie dogs before we ran out of daylight.  Went on into to town before it got dark for a room and something to eat.  We headed out to get something to eat and it rained like crazy for about an hour; like cats and dogs.  Not good but we’ve had worse.

Got up the next day to a sunny day with not much wind.  We headed South out of Wray, CO for some more shooting; not much luck.  We ran into dead ends at nearly every turn.  We managed to find one more spot outside Burrlington, CO that didn’t have many either.  We finially gave it up and headed home to Denver.  We got to Limon, CO and weather moved in again.  We stopped and ate supper and waited for the rain to stop.

We didn’t do real bad, I managed to shoot 81 prairie dogs in only about 6 hours of shooting.

The biggest problem this year was I didn’t get out to do any scouting.  It was either cold, snowing, or raining for May and June.

This time I used a new suppressor.  It’s a 30 Cal suppressor like the bottom one in the above pic, but it’s bigger; longer and around.  The boss at Phoniex Weaponary said “about 40 db quieter”.  It worked quite well on both guns.  This is the first, so it’s made of Stainless Steel not Titanium.  It weighs 2.2 pounds compaired to .9 pounds of the Titanium.  Not a big deal for the rifles I used this time.  They’re both “varmint” barrel rifles, a 6 x 45 and 20 VarTarg.  If I was using a sporter barrel rifle the weight might make a differene.
